Frequently Asked Questions
What does a typical coaching process look like?
While there are many variations, coaching usually involves a series of phases, starting with an introductory session, assessment, goal setting, and developmental planning, and then progressing through the plan, with periodic check-ins with the individual’s manager. The process is over when the development goal(s) is achieved, or when the coach and coachee decide that it should be.
Does coaching have to be in person?
Face-to-face is ideal, given that so much of our communication is non-verbal and it helps in building rapport initially. It’s becoming more common to coach virtually over the phone or via Zoom. A combination of all works well.
What to expect?
Throughout the coaching process, you may be asked to step out of your comfort zone because revelations and the greatest growth occur when you allow yourself to take new types of action—beyond how you traditionally work. At the same time, coaching is an opportunity to be yourself, knowing you have someone to support you.
Through quality coaching, you may reframe the way you see yourself in your role. You will discover your innate strengths and learn how to leverage them to achieve your professional goals.
