I know it’s only December and you may still be deciding if you need to invest in an ugly Christmas sweater for your Holiday events, but have you thought about what you are going to do in the first 100 days of the New Year? It’s been said that the first hundred days of a Presidency is when a President’s power and influence is at its greatest. As a leader in your organization, now is the time for you to use your influence to set the stage for your organization in 2019. What are your top priorities next year? What tone and culture will you set for your organization? Will your focus be growth and expansion or training and rebuilding?
As you think about your goals for next year, we’ve created a handy To-Do List to help you ring in the New Year when it comes to compliance:
√ Order and Post your 2019 Employment Law Poster by 1/1/19.
√ Ensure the appropriate Industrial Wage Order is printed and placed next to your poster.
√ Schedule company holidays and shutdown periods for 2019.
√ Review your existing employee handbook and make necessary updates for 2019.
√ The 2019 minimum wage increase may impact your hourly and salaried employees. Review your exempt and non-exempt employee classifications. Do any employees need to receive salary adjustments or be converted to non-exempt to comply by January 1, 2019?
√ Wondering what other companies in the area are paying their employees? Contact CEA to find out about our Compensation surveys.
√ If you have 5 or more employees, determine how you will ensure all of your employees receive California’s required Harassment Prevention Training next year.
√ Review your vacant positions. If you need assistance with recruiting, CEA can help.
√ Update written commission agreements for any employees who receive a commission (CEA members can use the Commission Fact Sheet in our HR Forms section of the website).
Let us help you get ready for those first 100 days of 2019. We can facilitate your next strategic planning session so you can determine the best places to focus your time and your energy. Give us a call—we are here to support you as you ring in the New Year!
Wishing you and your loved ones a happy Holiday Season!
