Harassment Prevention Training for Supervisors
Training on how to prevent workplace harassment is now mandatory for almost all California employers (five  or more employees), and California Employers Association is here to help with Harassment Prevention Training that meets California’s legal requirement.
This course is a 2-hour instructor-led session where employees will engage in discussions on all forms of sexual harassment (verbal, visual, and physical). Other types of prohibited harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and abusive conduct will also be covered in an interactive format.
Supervisors will learn how to recognize problems and about their responsibility in the prevention of sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and abusive conduct. Topics include reporting, bystander intervention, investigating and resolving complaints, parameters of confidentiality, and practical tips on how to stay out of trouble and keep your workplace harassment-free.
In the past, only California employers with 50 or more employees were required to provide sexual harassment prevention training—and only to supervisors. Effective 1/1/19, SB1343 requires all California employers with five (5) or more employees to provide harassment prevention training. The deadline for this training was updated on August 30, 2019 (effective immediately) as follows:
- Two hours of sexual harassment prevention training to all supervisory employees by January 1, 2021.
- One hour of sexual harassment prevention training to all non-supervisory employees by January 1, 2021.
- Part-time, temporary, and seasonal employees, plus independent contractors count toward the minimum employee count of five employees.
- Training must occur within six months of the employee starting the position (and every 2 years thereafter).
The SB 778 updates allow covered employers who have provided anti-harassment training in 2019 to wait until 2021 before providing refresher training. NOTE—Employers with 50 or more employees who provided the mandatory supervisor training in 2018 must still complete that training in 2020.
