What Do Trump’s Executive Orders Mean For California Employers?

President Trump issued twenty-seven Executive Orders (“EO”s) in the first two days of his administration. Three of them in particular have left employers concerned and confused about the potential impact on their Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and Equal Employment Opportunity policies. Employers in California, where state anti-discrimination laws provide protections broader than existing federal laws, face particular challenges piecing it all together.

Each year, the National Council of Hispanic Employment Program Managers votes on a theme. The winning theme for 2024's Hispanic Heritage Month is Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together. We can see from the statistics above how fitting this theme is, as the growing influence, achievements, and contributions of Hispanic Americans across all industries are shaping the landscape of America. We are in the middle of Hispanic Heritage Month. Running mid-September through mid-October, Hispanic Heritage Month has a lot to boast about.

What Leaders Can Learn from Taylor Swift

Over the past weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to experience Taylor Swift's Eras Tour movie not once, but twice! I shared this unforgettable experience over two days with distinct groups of friends, spanning three generations of professionals, business owners, and leaders, whose ages ranged from 40 - 65 (although when we left we all felt 22). For all of us, the collective sentiment was unanimous—this was undeniably the most outstanding concert we had ever witnessed, leaving us with only one regret: that we didn't have the chance to attend it in person. During our post-movie discussion, as we basked in the "Lavender Haze," we couldn't help but marvel at Taylor Swift's remarkable talents as both a businesswoman and a leader.

February is Black History Month

This year's Black History Month theme is "Black Health and Wellness," focusing attention to how American healthcare has often underserved the African American community. As the COVID-19 pandemic has recently shown, a widespread disparity of access to quality healthcare negatively impacts outcomes for Blacks and other minorities. Black History Month is also a recognition of the contributions Black Americans have made to this nation’s culture and progress. As employers, we can add to the experience of Black History Month by creating meaningful programming for our employees. Here are a few ideas.
