It is hard to find the right words to offer the victims of the wildfires that continue to burn across our state. Our entire team met on Friday to discuss how we can support our members, families and friends as they deal with the loss of family, homes, businesses and employment. Many of our member’s businesses have had to shut down their operations due to the wildfires and have been reaching out to us to find out what relief is available to their employees.

Here are some resources for employers and employees:

Unemployment Insurance for Employees: The Governor has issued a State of Emergency proclamation for counties hit by the fire disasters. For these disasters, the one-week waiting period for UI benefits is being waived.

Payroll Tax Extension for Employers: A 60-day extension has been granted to file state payroll reports and deposit state payroll taxes without any penalty or interest. http://www.edd.ca.gov/About_EDD/Disaster_Related_Services.htm

Employers: Information on handling pay and leave of absence requests can be found at www.employers.org/blog/2017/10/11/default/how-to-handle-employee-issues-after-a-devastating-event/

Employees & Employers: What happens when people experience a disaster or traumatic event? There is no one 'standard' pattern of reaction to the extreme stress of traumatic experiences. Find information on how to help yourself and your family at: http://www.apa.org/helpcenter/wildfire.aspx

For CEA Members who have been impacted by the fires, contact us, we’d like to help with your dues. Call us at 800.399.5331 for more information.
