Just When you Figured out the Last Form?

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released a new Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, on July 17, 2017.

Employers can use this newly revised version or continue using Form I-9 with a revision date of (11/14/16 N) through Sept. 17, 2017. However, beginning Sept. 18, 2017 employers must use the newest revised form (with revision date 07/17/17 N).  Employers must continue following existing storage and retention rules for any previously completed Form I-9.

Changes: Among the minor changes, the new version renumbers all List C documents except the Social Security card and streamlines the certification process for certain foreign nationals.  Changes were made to Section 1 to emphasize that this section must be completed at the time of hire, when the employee starts to work for pay.  A final change is a revision of the name “Department of Justice's Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices” to its new name, the “Immigrant and Employee Rights Section.”
