Project Hired

California Employers Association (CEA) and the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) a division of Vietnam Veterans of California, Inc. (VVC) are seeking sponsorship for a 16-week training specifically designed for Veterans entering the challenging job market.

Our customized program assists veterans in their transition with post-military careers. For many veterans the transition from military to civilian life is difficult and many have returned to find there are few jobs available.

The VETNet Forum provides transition assistance by leveraging experiences and providing peer support. Professional Edge Veterans workshops provide an array of career development services to prepare the returning veterans for successful careers. CEA’s Professional Edge programs resulted in 80% of their participants hired in the last fiscal year with salaries averaging over 50K.

Your company’s sponsorship of Project Hired demonstrates your contribution in reversing the trend of layoffs and high unemployment in your community. CEA and VVC are non-profit organizations and all proceeds will go to funding the Professional Edge training program. In addition, your company may be eligible to receive tax credits for working with our programs. We are looking forward to getting Veterans back to work!

CEA has created a workshop and forum series designed for Veterans that are entering the challenging
job market. Our customized program assists veterans in their transition to post-military careers.
For many veterans the transition from being in the military to being a civilian can be a challenge. The Professional Edge Veterans Series courses are designed to identify veteran skill sets that are a match for the private sector. The workshops provide structure and reinforce the importance of networking
groups.

The VETNet Forum provides transition assistance by leveraging experiences and providing peer support. Topics include contemporary job search strategies. Most veterans are well adapted to the military culture they have lived and worked during their time in service. Many decisions and services were made for those that have served. The civilian world is culture shock that many veterans need to re-learn to be successful in their transition. CEA’s VETNet provides the support to making this cultural shift. Professional Edge Veterans workshops provide an array of career development services to prepare the returning veterans for successful careers. CEA also brings employers to VETNet for special career events and tours.

Workshops Include:

  • Transitioning to Civilian Workforce
  • Discover Your Strengths
  • Resume Workshop
  • Are you an Entrepreneur
  • Using Your Network
  • Social Media Job Search Strategies
  • LinkedIn to Work
  • Dress for Success
  • Informational and Behavioral Interviews
  • Watch Your Body Language
  • Strategies for Success
  • Reverse job fairs
  • Getting to the Yes

The Veteran Business Outreach Center, a division of VVC and CEA need you to help put our veterans back to work. Your sponsorship will make that happen! Vietnam Veterans of California , Incorporated (VVC)is a non-profit organization 501c (3) incorporated in 1980. The agency was initially organized with a mission to assist veterans returning from Vietnam who had multiple, interrelated and commonly severe, readjustment issues. VVC's mission has evolved to encompass a wide range of issues facing veterans, all veterans from all eras that are in need; disability, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), homelessness, family dysfunction, disabled children, barriers to employment, substance abuse/addiction, criminal and civil justice, and ongoing psychological problems associated with their experience in the military. This evolution has seen the agency grow from one site, to six sites serving veterans throughout Northern California; Eureka, Redding, Menlo Park, Sacramento, and Santa Rosa.

VVC services have also evolved from readjustment counseling to include: outreach and referral, transitional housing, employment counseling and training, job development and placement, small business and economic development services, legal and advocacy services, case management, permanent housing coordination and placement, and substance abuse recovery and counseling.

In general, VVC and staff have designed and managed projects for the White House, U.S. Department of Labor, Department of Veterans Affairs, Action Agency, and National Endowment for the Humanities, California Job Training Partnership Division, and the California Employment Development Department. In addition, VVC and staff have served as consultants and advisors to the U.S Small Business Administration, California Department of Veterans Affairs, Senate Veteran's Affairs Committee, California Assembly Select Committee on Veteran's Affairs, California Homeless Coalition, and National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, California Veterans Employment & Training Planning Group, Agent Orange Class Assistance Program, traditional veteran membership organizations and numerous private sector agencies.

VVC staff has an extensive background in the successful administration of private and public contracts at the local, state and national level. VVC has expanded its services to a vast number of veterans throughout California and is applying for an expanded statewide presence consideration due to the fact VVC provides "real services", benefits, and assistance and program activities affecting over 30% of veterans throughout California.

The Veterans Business Outreach Center is a division of VVC. VBOC core mission is to advance the growth and commercial competiveness of veterans owned small business enterprises through education and services focusing on business development, technology deployment and e-commerce.
